Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas expressed his appreciation to Spotify for supporting Indonesia's initiative to manage global royalties. He stated that the government will continue to promote The Indonesian Proposal for a Legally Binding Instrument on the Governance of Copyright Royalty in the Digital Environment to strengthen fairness and transparency in the global music industry, particularly in improving royalty governance in Indonesia.

"We truly appreciate Spotify for supporting Indonesia's royalty governance initiative. We will continue to actively support and oversee its implementation," said Minister Supratman.

The Minister explained that this proposal reflects the government's commitment to supporting the growth of the music ecosystem and ensuring that creators receive fair benefits for their work.

"This is a crucial step to ensure royalty governance is fair, transparent, and sustainable for all copyright holders," stated the Law Minister.

As a music streaming platform, Spotify is committed to being transparent and accountable in how it calculates, collects, and distributes royalties to artists and copyright holders. In an official letter to the Minister of Law, they expressed full support for Indonesia's proposal on royalty governance.

Vineeta Dixit, Spotify's Director of Public Policy and Government Relations for JAPAC, expressed his appreciation for the Ministry's commitment. "We really appreciate the Ministry's dedication to keeping royalty governance in Indonesia transparent, accountable, and fair for all rights holders. Your efforts regarding LMKN and LMK in improving the collection and distribution system are a crucial step toward creating more trust and efficiency in the industry," Dixit said.

Spotify hopes to collaborate with Indonesia to support the proposal that empowers artists and promotes fair royalty governance. Spotify also expressed support for the Minister of Law's efforts to improve royalty governance and strengthen transparency.

"We look forward to collaborating with the Ministry of Law and other stakeholders to enhance royalty governance in Indonesia and make sure creators get fair compensation for their work," Dixit stated.

Indonesia's proposal for an international legal instrument on royalty governance was developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Creative Economy. Submitted to WIPO on October 14, this initiative represents Indonesia's commitment to promoting economic fairness for creators and the creative industry in the digital era.

Spotify and the Ministry of Law held a preliminary meeting on October 8 to discuss their shared commitment to strengthening digital copyright protection. They also encouraged the public to support a healthy creative ecosystem by accessing music only through official and licensed platforms.
