Jakarta – The Ministry of Law expressed its appreciation to the instructors, supervisors, and cadets of the Indonesian Corrections Polytechnic (Poltekpin) for their contribution to post-disaster community service efforts in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh. The appreciation was conveyed directly by Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas as a tribute to their humanitarian actions.

Supratman said the cadets’ service reflects genuine compassion for others. He emphasized that direct engagement in assisting communities in need provides invaluable learning beyond academics, helping to nurture empathy and social awareness.

“The most important value in life is compassion for others, especially for those who are less fortunate or facing hardship,” Supratman said during a gathering with the Poltekpin humanitarian team at Graha Pengayoman, Saturday (January 31 2026).

He added that the community service initiative was not merely a humanitarian mission, but also a meaningful experience embodying the Tri Dharma of higher education. Education develops cognitive abilities, research generates applied knowledge, while community service fosters empathy and social sensitivity.

“Not everyone has this opportunity. Academic excellence alone is not enough without compassion for others,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Head of the Human Resources Development Agency for Law, Gusti Ayu Putu Suwardani, explained that the initiative stemmed from the Minister’s directive encouraging Poltekpin cadets to take part in disaster response. Following this directive, cross-ministerial coordination was promptly carried out, including with the Ministry of Home Affairs as the coordinator of the National Task Force for Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.

“Out of 285 cadets stationed in Sumatra, 119 participated directly in this mission, comprising 77 cadets from the Corrections Polytechnic and 42 from the Immigration Polytechnic,” Gusti Ayu said.

Over 12 working days, the humanitarian team carried out service activities at three locations: the Class IIB Kuala Simpang Correctional Facility, staff housing complexes, and SDIT Darul Mukhlishin Elementary School. At these sites, the cadets contributed to recovery efforts through cross-sector collaboration.

The mission was supported through coordination with regional offices, local governments, correctional institutions, and school authorities to ensure smooth and targeted implementation.

The cadets’ dedication received strong appreciation from local authorities and stakeholders. Their field experience is expected to become a meaningful lesson, strengthening not only professional competence but also empathy and social responsibility in service to the nation.
